ATA was founded in 1994 by a group of Turkish students, academics and professionals in London. The diversity of members' backgrounds and interests has increased in time, as the number of its members has gone up. Today, we have academic and professional members from law, medicine, banking, art and many other fields as well as university students from Turkey. ATA is based in London, but membership is open to anyone, regardless of their country of residence, who is interested in our aims and activities.
ATA's mission differs from any other Association in the UK:
Our fundamental principle is to gather
academics and professionals from the UK and Turkey under the same roof
and to create a platform for discussion on social, political and
academic issues.
We encourage members to share their academic or professional expertise with other members through joint studies by giving seminars to members and other interested audiences or by contribution articles to our newsletter, Platform.
ATA aims to focus on issues of concern to
both the UK and Turkey and discuss them on an academic or social level
through seminars and conferences.
ATA aims to support Turkish students in the UK in their search for job opportunities and career prospects through ATA Careers.
Meetings: ATA organises seminars and conferences and provides a platform for free discussion and new points of view.
Newsletter: ATA publishes a Newsletter, Platform, which is sent to both members and others who are interested in Anglo-Turkish relations. Members are invited to contribute to the Newsletter through academic )or non-academic) papers, articles or literary studies.
Social Gatherings: ATA organises social gatherings to strengthen the ties among its members and also to introduce the Association to individuals who have an interest in Anglo-Turkish relations.
ATA Careers: In 2004, ATA has launched ATA Careers, a free career advice and support service for Turkish students in the UK.
ATA
is a non-profit organisation. Our income comes from membership fees,
